Thirty years of stone
Peter came to Michigan from Romania at twenty-four and learned the trade in other men's shops. He opened his own on Haggerty Road and he still walks every job.
The long way around
Peter came to Michigan from Romania when he was twenty-four years old.
He didn't own a shop. He didn't own a saw. He went to work in other men's granite shops and started at the bottom of it, which in this trade means the heavy end of the slab.
He stayed at it for years. Long enough to learn which stones crack and which forgive. Long enough to learn to read a slab before cutting it, so the veining runs the way the customer pictured it instead of dying in a seam. Long enough to learn that the difference between a countertop and a good countertop is almost entirely invisible, and lives in the hands of whoever made it.
When he knew the work well enough to answer for it, he opened his own shop.
Beautiful Granite & Marble is still on Haggerty Road in Commerce Township, Michigan, a few minutes from Walled Lake, and Peter is still the one who walks the job.
What that means for you
It means when you call, you're not being routed to a call center and you're not being handed to a commissioned salesman. It means the man who quotes your kitchen is the man who has been cutting stone for three decades, and he will tell you when the slab you picked is wrong for the room you're putting it in. Some people don't want to hear that. The ones who do tend to come back.
We fabricate granite, quartz, marble, quartzite and solid surface for homes and businesses across Walled Lake, Commerce Township, Novi, West Bloomfield, Northville and the rest of Oakland County. Kitchen counters and islands, bathroom vanities, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, bar tops, commercial counters and outdoor kitchens.
How a job goes
1. Come see the stone. Drive out to the shop and walk the yard. Look at whole slabs, not sample chips, in daylight. Put your hand on them. If you're deciding between two materials, this is where that gets settled, and we'll tell you honestly how each one is going to behave in your house. Bring a cabinet door or a floor sample if you have one. Estimates are free.
2. We template. Once your cabinets are set, we come to you and build a template off your real walls. Not off a drawing, not off numbers you read to us over the phone. Every corner gets measured as it actually is. This is the step that decides whether the finished top fits, and it's the step most complaints trace back to when it's skipped.
3. We fabricate. Your slab is cut, edged and polished in our own shop on Haggerty Road. Sink and cooktop cutouts, faucet holes, and the edge profile you chose. On stone with heavy movement we lay the pieces out on the slab first, so the pattern flows the way you want it and the seam lands somewhere you won't be looking.
4. We set the tops. Our crew sets the tops, joins and fills the seams, and scribes to the walls where the walls require it. One company from the yard to your kitchen. One number to call if something isn't right.
